Lethbridge – Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest (ASDC SW) congratulates founding and current ASDC SW board member Dr. Gary Bowie on being named to the Alberta Order of Excellence.
Dr. Bowie has champion sport development in Lethbridge for over five decades. In 2008, Dr. Bowie was a leading voice to establish a high-performance centre for emerging elite athletes in the southwest region. The ASDC SW was the fifth centre to open in the province and since 2008 ASDC SW has provided athletes with free high-performance and sports science training through the Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP). Alumni of the AEP include 2016 Olympian Rachel Nicol, 2017 Meridian Canadian Open Curling Champion Jessie Scheidegger and many other athletes that have represented the region in national and international competition.
Dr. Bowie continues to serve as a valued member of the ASDC SW board of directors. 'Dr. Gary Bowie has been a long-time dedicated leader in sports in Lethbridge and area, with a vision for building important institutions, including Alberta Sport Development Centre-Southwest, in a highly sustainable fashion. Many of today's local sports volunteers have been, and continue to be, inspired by Gary's wonderful role model', said current ASDC SW President, Jon Doan.
The ASDC SW is honored to have Dr. Bowie as a board member and joins the many Lethbridge community organizations in congratulating Dr. Bowie on receiving the highest honor for an Alberta citizen, the Alberta Order of Excellence.
