RBC Training Ground

Athletes between the ages of 14 and 25 are invited to attend an RBC Training Ground event to measure their speed, power, strength and endurance. Each athlete will try to hit performance benchmarks set by national sport organizations (NSO) scouting for young talented athletes with Olympic medal potential.

 RBC Training Ground is a talent identification and athlete funding program designed to uncover athletes with Olympic potential and provide them with the high-performance sport resources they need to achieve their podium dreams.

New for 2019 is the School Challenge!

The school from southwest Alberta that has the most participants will recieve three FREE ASDC SW sport science sessions ($525 value). Schools can choose three of the following topics;

                        • Mental Performance
                        • Nutrition
                        • Injury Prevention
                        • Concussion Education
                        • Social Media Awareness

Sessions open to athletes, coaches, teachers and parents from the winning school. In the event of a tie, the school with the best overall perforamacne score will be the winner.

The top three overall performing athletes will win a all expenses paid Olympic athlete training session at the Canadian Sport Insitiute Calgary. Training will be a half day with sport science sessions.

The Canadian Sport Institute provides world-leading Olympic and Paralympic training environments to elite athletes and coaches across Alberta. With the support of our partners, our team of experts delivers sport science and medicine, coaching and life services to power podium performances and help Canada win more medals.

In the event of a tie, the athletes school with the most participants will be awareded the experience.

ASDC SW will have a table for school athletes to check in at the event.

Athletes will compete in four exercises

POWER: Vertical Jump – to measure the explosiveness of the lower body

SPEED: 30 Metre Sprint – to evaluate running velocity

STRENGTH: Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull– to gauge muscular strength and power

ENDURANCE: 20 Metre Multi-Stage Shuttle Run– to assess general full-body aerobic power
