AEP Coach Breakfast with Dr. Amy Bender
Dr. Amy Bender is Senior Research Scientist at Calgary Counselling Centre and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She developed the only sleep screening questionnaire for athletes and has optimized sleep in numerous Canadian Olympic Team athletes, professional teams, and other peak performers. She received her PhD and Master of Science degrees in Experimental Psychology from Washington State University specializing in sleep EEG.
Her research interests stem from being an athlete and coach herself; she played 3 sports in HS where she won a state championship in volleyball, went on to become a community college Hall of Fame basketball player, was JV and assistant coach for a HS basketball state championship team, and has completed an Ironman. She is driven to help coaches and athletes optimize sleep to enhance well-being and performance.

Nutrition is a major part of an athlete's life and is important in optimizing performance.
Mental Training educates and provides various psychological skills and strategies for improving training, practice, competition, and even daily life.
If an athlete doesn't have good dynamic visual skills like depth perception, peripheral awareness, and an ability to track moving objects the chances are, they are not playing to their full ability.
Determining an athlete's performance profile is essential to building, monitoring, and evaluating training programs at all levels of sport.
